My thoughts on sexuality.
In my opinion there’s a gradient from heterosexual to homosexual. And people are born all across that gradient, however, anybody can choose to go against that gradient. Nobody is born strictly homosexual OR heterosexual, sexuality is a choice but it isn’t always a conscious one. I feel like there are a lot of people in the middle of the gradient predisposed biochemically to both sexualities but, only consciously choose to explore one.
Also, some arousal is due solely to physical stimulation. Even males paralyzed from the waist down can have an erection due to physical nerve reflex as opposed to pleasure signals sent consciously from the brain. So for people, with normal sensation, despite the gender of their partner they can experience physical pleasure. And if you take out the factor of the absence/presence of the physical aspects why does gender matter in the emotional aspect of a relationship?
Sexual orientation has to be fluid because gender is (genetically, physically, personally) fluid. “females”=XX “males”=XY but there’s also people with XXXX, XYY, and XO sex chromosomes. Who are we to define gender/orientation norms for anybody based on something as fluid as genetics?
And after writing out this long post IMHO I feel that the reason most religions condemn homosexuality is because the “natural” thing is to reproduce and they encourage relationships that can product viable offspring. Ex: incest is usually discouraged and those relationships often birth babies with a high number of high-risk recessive diseases and conditions. In royal families where there are a lot of relationships within closely related individuals you often see recessive ailments such as hemophilia. However, without incest incidences of these conditions would not appear within the family as often. No society can survive with the complete absence of sex for reproductive purposes nor with a surplus of relationships that will not produce relatively healthy children.
